The way in. DANB caps this credential at three renewals, which is a fairly direct way of saying it is a starting point rather than a destination — and two of its three components are components CDA needs.

The credential most people mean when they say “certified.” If you came through NELDA you already hold two thirds of it; General Chairside is the exam that is genuinely new, and it is the biggest one of the three.

The engine treats it as knowledge, not as paperwork. Passing a component is DANB’s record to keep. What the product does with it is different: the concepts you demonstrated while studying for Infection Control are already in your profile when you open CDIPC, so the plan starts from what is actually missing instead of from chapter one. Radiation Health and Safety works the same way into Orthodontic Assisting, which carries its own eighteen percent of radiation content.
The on-the-job candidate
You Did Not Have to Go to a Program
A large share of dental assistants learned this job at the chair, not in a classroom.
DANB has a work-experience route for exactly that, and this product is built for it as a first-class case rather than as an exception.
- Two broad routes in. Graduating from an accredited dental assisting program, or documented on-the-job work experience. DANB owns the current rules for both, including how much experience counts and what has to be signed off — check their pathway pages before you pay an exam fee.
- Current CPR or BLS certification is also required by DANB. We do not provide it and cannot — it is hands-on. Get it booked early; it is the requirement most often discovered late.
- Experience is an advantage here, not a gap to paper over. The calibration is short, and what you already do every day shows up as credit rather than as questions you have to sit through.
- What experience does not cover is the vocabulary and the numbers. You may place a dental dam perfectly and still lose marks on the terminology for what you just did, or on an exposure calculation you have never had to write down. That is precisely where the drills and the graded math aim.
- Study time is measured in the minutes you actually have. Autopilot takes your exam date and a realistic daily number — twenty minutes after a full clinical day is a real plan, and it will build one.

Pick the credential, not the reading list
Choose CDA, or COA, or CPFDA — and the product works out which component exams that means and builds the course from them. Change your mind later and it re-plans rather than restarting.
